Mustang Mach 40- This mid-engine (2006 GT) '69 Mustang Mach 1 was built at Eckert's Rod and Custom (ERC) under the direction/engineering/planning of shop owner Dave Eckert. Hardison Metal Shaping (HMS) was brought in as a sub-contractor to handle the extensive sheet metal shaping that the Michael Miernik's design sketches required. Very early in the project Colton joined ERC's senior fabricator, Adam Bany, who had already built most of the frame, positioned the engine, and had done much of the preliminary body mock-up. As Colton shaped the body, Adam continued with the mechanicals (suspension, plumbing, firewall, floor, controls, bumper mods, fuel tank, dash, exhaust, glass,etc.). Once most of the fabrication was completed, it was all-hands-on-deck to make it to SEMA 2012. Thanks to ERC's Adam, Cody, Will, and John for the late nights of paint prep, wiring, and assembly. Paint was sprayed by Ben's Custom Paint. The gorgeous red/black leather interior was crafted by Jim, Matt, Megan, and Christian of Griffin Interiors. Very little of the original body was used. Scroll through this gallery to see HMS's process of shaping the body panels and visit ERC's site for more information on the car. It was a great opportunity to do work for such a nice customer- I hope he enjoys the car.
